Inclinometers for Accurate Tilt Monitoring

inclinometer

Tilt measurement in boreholes, structures, and slopes demands sensors that stay stable over time. Kingmach’s inclinometers are built for these long-term jobs, with a focus on consistent output and easy integration into existing monitoring setups. The product line covers portable probes and fixed-in-place systems, so you aren’t forced into a one-size-fits-all choice. Custom measurement ranges and communication protocols are standard options—not exceptions. Teams working on dams, retaining walls, and landslide zones often need to adapt instruments to local conditions, and our engineering support helps with those adjustments. If you’re used to specifying exact sensor lengths or cable types, we can match that without long lead times. After installation, calibration checks and troubleshooting are part of the support package, whether you’re a few miles away or on another continent.

Technical Detail

Configured around process stability, mold life, and long-term uptime.

A typical inclinometer from Kingmach combines a MEMS sensor element with a stainless steel housing rated to IP67. The probe body is machined to fit standard 70 mm and 85 mm casing, and the wheel assemblies are spring-loaded to maintain contact inside grooved pipes. Output options include RS485, 4–20 mA, and Modbus RTU, which simplifies connection to common dataloggers. Resolution down to 0.005° is achievable on many units, though exact performance depends on the range selected. For automated systems, the fixed-in-place chains can be built to length and daisy-chained for deep boreholes, with tilt data transmitted to a central gateway. Kingmach sees a lot of requests for inclinometers in harsh environments, so sealing and cable strain relief are given extra attention during assembly. The factory can also pre-configure sensors to match your reporting units and alarm thresholds before shipping. If you need a particular cable length or a connector type that’s common in your region, it’s usually a matter of specifying it on the order. Beyond the hardware, the team offers remote calibration guidance and can walk your technicians through initial setup over video call. For projects that require ongoing data management, we often recommend pairing the inclinometers with one of our cloud-enabled loggers.

FAQ

Common technical questions

What casing size do these inclinometers use?

Most probes are designed for 70 mm or 85 mm grooved casing. The wheel spacing is adjustable for either size. When you order, just tell us which casing you’ll be using, and we ship it set up correctly.

Can I connect the inclinometer to a system that reads Modbus?

Yes. We have models with Modbus RTU output over RS485. If you need another protocol, like 4–20 mA, that’s also available. Let us know your datalogger or PLC details, and we’ll confirm compatibility.

We need a long cable for a deep borehole. Is that a problem?

Not at all. We can supply cables up to several hundred meters, with Kevlar strain relief and polyurethane jackets. We’ll work with you to spec the right length and connector.

How do I know if a MEMS or servo-accelerometer type is better for my site?

MEMS is fine for most stability monitoring. If you need ultra-low noise or are working on a dam where tenths of a millimetre matter, we can talk about alternative sensor options. Our team will look at your accuracy requirements and suggest a solution.

What kind of after-sales support do you provide?

We offer calibration checks, installation training over video, and troubleshooting. If a probe needs repair, you can send it back to us, and we’ll usually return it within a couple of weeks.
